Going to go nofollow if the spam doesnt stop.

This blog is a ‘dofollow’ blog. That means that if you comment and I approve the comment you get a real link. If you comment with something useful, on topic you’ll get a link which could help you improve your search engine positions.

However I am seriously thinking about changing this to try and limit the amount of spam, crap, useless and TBH offensive porn and Rx stuff thats been coming through. Part of the reason I’m posting less is that I’m having to wade through a couple of hundred spam comments every day, thats after akismet has removed the majority of spam.

Please behave responsibly and don’t submit crap else I’ll go back to nofollow and make commenting on this blog worthless - its not something I want to do but please add value not waste my time.

I guess that’s just the way it is, if you plant flowers there gonna be bees flying around, if you have a do follow blog well, there gonna be spammers trying to get a benefit out of it.. maybe that’s just the natural law of the internet jungle.
I know it sucks to deal with spam comments and to sort them everyday, but no pain no gain, making this blog do follow gives you traffic right ? well, so those spams are your pain I guess. I have a friend who had a do follow blog, he dealt with spams everyday but he didn’t quit until he reached PR 4. But in the end, do follow.. no follow.. it’s your decission, think of what’s best for you hope you make the right decission, see ya.

Don’t approve spam comments or install Akistem or something.
The ones that comment ontopic should get a backlink, why don’t you think about that too ? At least you can give them one backlink for commenting and entering your blog.

I’m cool with useful comments - and happy to give out links to everyone. But if one more person gives the cookie cutter response of “nice blog. Will bookmark. Buy Viagra” or something equally pap will explode. If every poster posted something useful, constructive and worthwhile they can all have a link - assuming that their site isn’t porn/Rx/hate crime sort of stuff. Will stick it out for a while.

Why don’t you use an anti-spam plugin that could automatically detect spams, or use captcha instead? I am running 23 blogs, all dofollow, and I never have any problem with spams…

    just my 2 cents

And you have every right to be angry with those nasty spammers. I have a blog myself and what really annoys me is when they DON’T EVEN BOTHER to read the darn article. They just ramble about nothing.
P.S. you DO have a nice blog :-)

I think it’s a good idea to stay dofollow, after all your blog attracts more comments and attention that way! Why did you switch over in the first place?

It’s a shame to see dedicated doFolow advocates turning it off after getting on too many spammer lists. I wonder how much of your spam comes from robots?, have you tried capchats to cut down on the dumbest robots. I use the “Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam” wordpress plugin which generates simple easy to read capchas that some robots will be able to decipher but which don’t slow down legit posters. (Some of the capcha images out there are like rorshak patterns)

Akismate is the best option to protect your site from spammers. Of course captcha too. And forgot to say, Thanks for offering Dofollow links. Its nice strategy to drive more traffic to any website or blog..

It will be easy if you just deal with some automated spam comments, IMO Akismet is still able to bury it down. Yet, I have no idea with any repeated comments like you mentioned above that were written by real human. :(

Having a do follow blog has its disadvantages. but in the end you will really reap the reward. You can use plugins like other sites do. they have spam checker where you have to solve the math problem first or enter the word/phrase in the picture.

I honestly don’t understand why these so called SEO people are still spamming blogs. Don’t they understand that if the owner of the blog gets feed-up and changes the blog to nofollow that all their comments are now also nofollow and all their efforts have been wasted? It seems to always be porn, casino, and Rx/viagra kind of stuff too.

  12. Retete Copii Says:

This one of the prices that you have to pay for having a blog. Either you stay on “dofollow” and you filter the comments, either you move on “nofollow” and you almost eliminated the comments. You can also make some good link building to raise your traffic, and than you can remove your “dofollow” problem.

Don’t go to nofollow! What made you go to dofollow in the first place? And how do you do it? If you have time, pls email me: lolare.blog@gmail.com

    Thanks :o)

It is obvious that there are a lot of spammers out there, but backlinks are super important to businesses and these people also support your blog and your apparent fashion sense, which I think is great by the way.
